Healthy Families Workshops

For over 10 years, Women’s Crisis Support ~ Defensa de Mujeres has conducted an 8-week Family Nights workshop series. The "Familias Saludables" domestic violence prevention workshop series is conducted twice per year for Spanish-speaking families and provides support, reduces social isolation and increases knowledge and understanding of issues such as:

  • Cultural Knowledge and Pride
  • Communication in the Family
  • Preventing Alcohol and other Drug use in the Family
  • Family Well-being
  • Prevention of Child Abuse
  • Preventing Domestic Violence in the Family
  • Community Involvement
The workshop series is facilitated by WCS~DdM Prevention staff with presentations by experts in our community. Concurrent workshops are offered for children and teens to increase their knowledge about healthy relationships and prevent intimate partner violence. Childcare is provided for younger children. On these “Family Nights” or “Noches de Familia,” families enjoy a complimentary dinner together, and learn how to maintain healthy family relationships.

After each series, families receive on-going support and referrals. Families take it upon themselves to identify areas in which they would like to continue learning or developing. WCS~DdM supports their interests and together, we plan a follow-up meeting with parents to promote a social and support network, as well as increasing families' access to community resources.

The curricula for the Familias Saludables workshop series and the concurrent Children's Workshops are available at cost at ToucanEd.com.
