Community Assesses Domestic Violence (12/6/11). Executive Director Laura Segura Gallardo was recently interviewed by the GoodTimes to discuss domestic violence in Santa Cruz County. “Violence affects everyone in the community; it doesn’t affect isolated individuals, it doesn’t affect just the victims,” said Segura. “It affects children when they witness domestic violence, it affects families.” Click here to read the full article.
Watsonville Comes Together Against Domestic Violence (10/17/11). WCS~DdM held its first ever Candlelight Vigil to commemorate the lives of those victimized by domestic violence. The event was one of many dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence during October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Click on the following link to watch coverage of the event.

Teens Fight Back Against Dating Violence (2/16/12). WCS~Ddm and Watsonville High School students teamed up during the month of February to educate the youth about the dangers of teen dating violence. The events included a skit during the WHS rally Thursday afternoon where Watsonville Mayor, Eduardo Montesino, gave a small speech and presented the school with a city proclamation announcing February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Women’s Crisis Support ~ Defensa de Mujures

Women’s Crisis Support~Defensa de Mujeres provides crisis intervention, including our 24-hour crisis line, crisis counseling, support groups, and referrals and information about domestic violence or sexual assault. WCS~DdM also provides counseling services for children and youth, educational presentations about domestic violence and sexual assault to schools and service providers throughout the county, and emergency safe shelter for women and children in need. All of our services are available in Spanish.
